Dr. Vince Lam Dr. Eri Lam
Dr. Vince Lam has served on the piano faculty of Southwestern University since 2006. Dr. Lam received the Bachelor of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, the Master of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota all in piano performance. His teachers include Nina Lelchuk, Phillip Kawin and Paul Schenly. Dr. Lam has performed solo and chamber music recitals throughout the United States and in South Korea. Some venues include Brigham Young University, University of Houston, Texas Tech University and Chosan University. Performances in music festivals include the Georgetown Festival of the Arts and the Interlochen Center for the Arts. He has also recorded music of the French composer Charles Dancla with his wife Eri Lam. Dr. Lam participated in a presentation at the Texas Music Educators Association of UIL music. Some other prizes and awards include the first prize at the James Tatem Piano competition and the fourth prize at Young Keyboard Artist Association International Piano competition. Prior to coming to Southwestern University, Dr. Lam was a member of the piano faculty at the St. Joseph's School of Music in St. Paul, MN and a teaching assistant at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN where he taught applied and class piano.
Dr. Lam has 15 years of teaching experience and enjoys working with students from young beginners to adults of various levels. He also offers advanced preparatory training to students who desire a career in music. Dr. Lam considers himself friendly and approachable yet goal oriented with his teaching. |
Dr. Eri Lam received the Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Houston, and the Master of Music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota. Her teachers included Fredell Lack, Sally O'Reilly and William Dick. In addition, Dr. Lam has completed all levels of Suzuki Pedagogy under the instruction of Mark Bjork.
Dr. Lam has garnered many prizes in local and international competitions, including the Pearl Amster Competition in Austin, the Austin Symphony Young Artist Competition, the San Antonio Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Wednesday Morning Music Club Competition (Austin). She has played in numerous chamber concerts and recitals throughout the U.S. and South Korea including the Round Top Festival, Brigham Young University, University of Houston, Texas Tech University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe and Chosun University. Dr. Lam has also served as concertmaster in several orchestras and has been a soloist with the San Antonio Symphony and Austin Civic Orchestra. Dr. Lam has recorded selected works of the French composer Charles Dancla with her husband pianist Vince Lam Dr. Lam has presented a clinic on the "UIL Class II Repertoire" at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention. She has also collaborated on a session at the American String Teacher's Association. Dr. Lam has written an introductory method for the violin entitled "Learning to Read, Learning to Play". Dr. Lam extensive teaching experience include a teaching assistant under Sally O'Reilly at the University of Minnesota, faculty of the Bravo Music Festival, St. Joseph's School of Music in St. Paul, MN, the Santa Fe Suzuki Institute, and the Longhorn Music Camp at the University of Texas at Austin. In the fall 2014, Dr. Lam retired from a tenure position at Southwestern University where she has taught since 2003 in order to focus on private teaching. She believes her calling is to nurture young beginners in the love of music and ground them in a complete technical regime. |
